The first trailer for Season 2 of Cora Kai is here and by the looks of it, Daniel and Johnny are only going to dive deeper into their lifelong battle for dojo supremacy in the upcoming season. The trailer opens with Daniel officially opening the Miyagi-Do, a karate school that offers free lessons and promises to teach kids “true karate”, a clear shot at Johnny’s Cobra Kai karate school.
The trailer also gives us a glimpse of the Cobra Kai crew perhaps getting a little too big for their britches, while Daniel trains a group of underdogs to master martial arts harkening back to his old sensei’s unconventional but effective tactics. It all points to another epic chapter in the Daniel-Johnny rivalry and given the open hostility between the two, it only seems like a matter of time before they once again face off in the dojo.
“I know how to beat Cobra Kai,” Daniel says. “I did it 30 years ago and I can do it again.”
The first season of Cobra Kai, which was set 30 years after the events of the Karate Kid, resparked the bitter rivalry between Daniel and Johnny, with the two once again facing off at the dojo. Except this time, of course, they weren’t the ones fighting. The two middle-aged men were taking on the roles of Mr. Miyaki and Sensei Kreese (who makes a brief appearance in the trailer after showing up at the end of season 1), having taken on the mentor roles in a classic showdown that comes to a head at another karate tournament. The show was a massive critical and audience success for YouTube, which earned it a second season renewal from the streaming service.
Cobra Kai season 2 premieres April 24 on YouTube Premium.
