Netflix’s horror movie starring Sandra Bullock has been available for less than three weeks, but it’s already smashed records. 45 million accounts watched Bird Box in seven days, according to Netflix. This is the highest debut Netflix has ever had.
Bird Box takes place five years after a dangerous and creepy presence has come to Earth. If a person lays eyes on this mysterious creature, that person is confronted by his or her greatest fear and is driven to commit suicide. Sandra Bullock plays a woman trying to stay alive and get her children to safety while blindfolded. It also stars John Malkovich and Sarah Paulson.
It wasn’t just bored and tired regular humans watching Bird Box on their couches over the holidays, though. Celebrities also were drawn in by this horror movie.
Kim Kardashian West tweeted about the movie while she was watching it. She asked her millions of followers who else had seen the movie, apparently not realizing that Bird Box was a popular movie. Her friend and social media sensation, Chrissie Teigen, lightly roasted Kardashian for her ignorance on Twitter. “Kimberly like everyone in the entire world,” Teigen replied.

Teigen loves horror movies and was positively terrified by Bird Box. She tweeted at Ellen’s producer, Andy Lassner, that she wanted to watch it again with him and a GoPro to show how jumpy and shaky her hands were. It’d be like The Blair Witch Project, but starring Teigen in her living room with husband John Legend.
There has been some doubt about Netflix’s streaming numbers, but there’s no doubt that this movie is a sensation.
