The mark of a true soulmate is that even in one of your proudest or most dignified moments, they’ll find a way to roast you to death. That is why when singer John Legend became the first black man to ever attain EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) status at this weekend’s Creative Awards Emmys, his wife Chrissy Teigen was naturally proud. But, after an evening of praise, she still took time out to burn him for his uncanny resemblance to the children’s character Arthur.
It started nicely enough. After Legend had won the Emmy for his role In Jesus Christ Superstar, Teigen had already posted a picture of him in the company of other actors who have attained the coveted status. But things got a little more fun as the evening went on.

Once the two got home, Teigen posted a pretty touching video of her husband putting his Emmy right up onto his enormous wall of important awards. Legend, looking stunned, even has a small smile on his face as he revels in his own achievement for a moment. Sounds sweet, no? Still is, even though Teigen put the words to the Arthur theme song in the caption.
For those who aren’t up to date with meme culture, Legend’s resemblance to the cartoon aardvark became an online phenomenon. And, naturally, Teigen happily joined in on the fun back in February when she got a little meta by posting a picture of the Arthur fist meme (meant to signify anger) with the caption: “John when you tell him he looks like Arthur.” Then there was the picture of their daughter Luna holding an Arthur stuffed animal with the caption “Luna and daddy.”
When it’s all said and done, Legend just can’t deny the comparison. Though he’s always a good sport about it, now that Legend is inarguably one of the GOATs, we’re sure he isn’t taking the light ribbing too hard.
