When Robert Downey Jr. suits up to play Iron Man, as an actor, he always hits the kind of coy interpersonal indifference that brings the character to life right out of the park. But as the Avengers star made an emotional post about the end of Chris Evans’ tenure as Captain America, Downey was anything but coy and indifferent. And now Evan’s short and sweet response is melting fans’ hearts.
Downey initially posted a picture that likened the relationship between Captain America and iron man to that of buzz lightyear and Woody From The Toy Story movies. After quickly tagging Evans, Downey wrote the caption, “We all know who the real sheriff in town is.” Even though Captain America leads the Avengers, it’d be wrong to undersell Downey’s role as, well, the first MCU character ever. That said, it was fitting when Evans wrote: “this guy” followed by a crown emoji. Though it’s been all about the end of Evans’ role as Cap, he still knows that Downey is the real king of the MCU.

Rumors have been swirling around that the yet to be named Avengers 4 will be Evans last rodeo in the red, white, and blue. But the actor, who’s played the role for close to a decade, all but confirmed his exit in a Twitter post last week.
“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful,” Evans wrote.
