While other stars were getting their makeup done or putting on glamorous gowns for the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards, Carrie Underwood was preparing in a different way: by pumping breast milk. The new mom posted a selfie of her in action before she took the stage Sunday night.
“Getting ready for my performance…….also pumping,” the 36-year-old mom of two captioned her Instagram photo, adding hashtags like “#multitasking” and “LetsDoThis.”
It was her first performance since giving birth to her second son, Jacob Bryan, on January 23 (she also has four-year-old Isaiah with husband Mike Fisher). And along with her relatable selfie, Underwood, who was nominated for female vocalist of the year, also opened up about the struggle of being a working mom on the red carpet before the show.
She told Extra TV that while she was sleep deprived, it was “for the best reason ever.” Underwood went on to explain, “The only thing that saves me is at four o’clock in the morning when [Jacob] is just smiling at me, and I’m like thank you. This morning he was screaming. That was not fun, but normally he gets up and wants to eat, and is just happy and smiling and so sweet.”
Staying positive is something Underwood has embraced as a new parent. She previously told Page Six that while her second pregnancy was much harder, “[I’m making] a promise to myself to start appreciating what my body CAN do and stop focusing on what it can’t.”
And fans are loving the country singer’s refreshing honesty, with her most recent photo garnering over 630,000 likes so far. “Thank you for helping us new mommas out here feel normal about our bodies and pumping!” one fellow mom wrote. Another joked, “Stars, they’re just like us!” Even Underwood’s hockey star husband chimed in with a few heart-eyes emojis.
