Bride Sparks Debate After Kicking Out Guests Who Brought Kids to Wedding

No kids allowed.

The internet is divided over the bride who kicked out wedding guests for bringing their kids. In a post shared earlier this month, the woman asks subreddit “Am I the Asshole?!?” whether she was wrong for ejecting a couple who showed up with their children to her adults-only wedding.

According to the anonymous bride, a long-time family friend and her husband brought their infant and toddler, despite the fact that her invitations “stated that there were to be no children at this wedding.” After the ceremony, she had her event planner go ask the couple to leave before the reception.

But when the event planner was unsuccessful, the bride says she had to intervene. “The wife gave a sort of apology and then assured me that they were capable of minding their own children to make sure they didn’t get in the way of anything. I said that wasn’t really the point … Finally, I snapped and said that they just needed to go, which, thankfully they did without much more noise. Still, the whole scene was incredibly embarrassing.”

She concluded her post by saying, “I really hate that my wedding day had to be somewhat marred by this incident. Was I the a-hole for making them leave?”

  1. How comfortable and prepared do you feeling speaking to your children about race and systemic racism?
That's not a conversation I plan to have.
I feel prepared. I will teach them that everyone is equal.
I feel unprepared and uncomfortable, but plan to have the conversation.
I feel prepared. I will teach them that inequality is a core American experience.
Thanks for the feedback!

The majority of people who responded to the Reddit post seem to support the bride’s decision, saying that if she specifically stated on the invitation that kids weren’t allowed, then the couple was in the wrong. “[Not the asshole]. You were clear and they ignored that. Then they had the gall to make a scene at YOUR wedding. Good riddance. They sound like the assholes,” commented one user.

However, in the latest update by the newlywed, she says there’s still bad blood between her and the couple. “The wife apparently is still angry about getting kicked out and the husband is FALSELY telling people that we threatened to call the cops on them.”
