Embarrassment is an almost the universal signifier of having parents, even when those parents are two of the most famous people in the world. A clip of Blue-Ivy Carter, the six-year-old spawn of Jay-Z and Beyonce, showed her sitting side stage and cringing as her parents kicked off their On The Run II tour in London last week.
Hilariously enough, no one is totally sure what she was cringing at, but as she made a stank face and immediately slumped behind the barrier to avert her eyes, one can only assume something onstage had mortified Blue-Ivy. Not to mention the fact that she seemed to peak over the barrier for just a second only to hide her eyes again.
#BlueIvy embarrassed to see her parents
Some have speculated that she was trying to hide her eyes during one of the steamier on-screen interludes featuring her parents. That would make sense, most people wither at the sheer thought of their parents getting ‘passionate,’ let alone having to look at it in an arena packed with tens of thousands of strangers. Another Twitter user suggested that Blue-Ivy may have been subject to an onstage shout-out, and for all their antics, young kids are often equal parts shy and boisterous.
Blue-Ivy could also just have an aversion to anything that could be perceived as ‘doing the most.’ During a speech about immigration rights at the Grammys this year, Blue-Ivy hilariously gestured for her parents to take it down a notch after she thought they started clapping a bit too hard. Maybe she’s just trying to play it cooler than everyone else.
