Amy Schumer Had the Perfect Response After Being Parent Shamed for the First Time

She wasn't having it.

Chrissy Teigen and Pink aren’t the only celebs firing back at parent-shamers online—new mom Amy Schumer has also joined the club, after being criticized by trolls for returning to work just two weeks after giving birth.

The 37-year-old comedian, who welcomed her first child, Gene Attell, with husband Chris Fischer on May 5, has dealt with her fair share of trolls over the years. So when people attacked her on social media following her return to the stage at The Comedy Cellar in New York City on Monday night, she was prepared.

“Sending out love to the moms shaming me for doing standup last night!” she wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, sharing a picture of her sitting in bed while pumping.

Schumer’s post was a response to comments on her first night back like “Already???? That’s insane!!! And inhumane,” and “I’m sorry. What?! Didn’t you birth a human like 5 minutes ago?”

But fans were quick to support Schumer on her latest photo, defending her choice to go back to work and praising her for balancing motherhood and her career. Even some fellow famous faces chimed in, like Selma Blair, who wrote, “Who the fudge would shame a mom for doing what she does? And how the hell did you do it?” with the tag #ShumerWoman. Demi Lovato and Debra Messing also commented, calling Schumer a “goddess” and a “rockstar.”

And one woman summed up the struggle of working parents perfectly, explaining, “People think that we become mothers and we stop being women who enjoy work, who have passion for other things, who are wives, who are daughters, who get tired and need a break.” She added, “We don’t stop loving our kids… We just make room for more stuff to love.”
