A Statistical Breakdown Of Fathers As Primary Caregivers

At 2 million, the number of stay-at-home dads in 2012 was nearly double what it was in 1989. While media has frequently explored the apparent role reversal of genders these numbers suggest, a recent Pew study shows that the primary reason for a father not working outside the home – then and now – is illness or disability. Still, dads who stay at home primarily to take care of their kids has increased 16-percent in that time, and now accounts for 21 percent of all stay-at-home dads.
