Fatherly‘s annual “Best Places To Work For New Dads” ranking tracks the progress of the 50 companies doing the most to help American fathers balance work and family life. Every company on our list offers exceptional benefits, including paid leave, access to child care subsidies or programs, and flexible time policies. Though the list changes every year, the overall trend among businesses actively engaging with the demand of fathers is positive. The average number of paid weeks off given to new fathers by companies on the list has, over the course of only two years, gone from four to 11, a 275 percent increase.

American Express

The multinational financial company and purveyor of 3.37 inch by 2.125 inch plastic cards made a splash last year by rolling out a platinum parental leave program. Amex increased their allowance of paid time off from six weeks for primary and two weeks for secondary caregivers to five months for all new parents.  The company also has a policy designed to create flexible work schedules and a “Caregiver of the Year Award.”

  • Employees who grow their family through adoption or surrogacy receive up to $35,000 per child, per event with a lifetime maximum of two events. Those who undergo reproductive treatments are eligible for up to $35,000 in medical assistance.

  • Parents get 20 days of subsidized backup dependent care per year. This can be used in-home or at a child care center.

  • Amex has a “summer flex” schedule at select locations where employees can compress their weeks and grab an extra four days off.
