What To Do When You Can’t Stand The Parent’s Of Your Kid’s New Friend


Unless you want to raise a misanthrope, you need to encourage your kid’s nascent friendships. That’s the case even if the friend in question has parents who make you question your property values. Don’t overthink it if you don’t like them — some people just suck (them, not you) — but instead focus on the important stuff: Is there any reason to think your kid would be unsafe with them? If not, then just accept that there’s value in seeing how other families live and operate. If you all have to be together, try to do so in a context that gives you space, like a museum or a park. That way you can always be conveniently checking out a different exhibit or “running to the car” when they want to talk to you. Subtle? Not really, but then this is about the kids, right?
