The Global Moms Relay is All the Charity with None of the Running

The following was produced in partnership with our friends at Johnson & Johnson, who proudly host Moms +SocialGood to highlight some of the most pressing concerns facing women and children globally, and the role families play in tackling these issues.

Improving the lives of women and children around the globe isn’t just a nice thing to do, it’s an imperative. While well-intentioned parents may want to help, the fact is that their day-to-day obligation to improve the lives of their own kids comes first. That’s why Johnson & Johnson and the United Nations Foundation (UNF) created the Global Moms Relay. The program lets time-strapped parents give to worthy causes abroad while staying focused on the people at home.

GMR accomplishes this by using social media to do social good. Celebrities, community leaders, experts, and parents — people such as Zoe Saldana, Lauren and Jenna Bush, Carli Lloyd, and Kristi Yamaguchi — all come together to share personal stories about what they wish for children around the world on Facebook and Twitter. Then, for every like, share, retweet, or comment on one of their posts, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 (up to $500,000) to one of 5 nonprofits working to improve access to healthcare and increase opportunities for women and kids everywhere. Here are this year’s organizations:

The Relay takes place from May 3 to June 16. All you need to do to prepare is make sure your smartphone is charged.
