The Science Behind Depression In Young Fathers
Tracking depressive symptoms in 10,000 men for 20 years is probably enough to make you depressed yourself, but that’s what researchers publishing in the journal Pediatrics did. They found that guys who have kids at age 25 are 70 percent more likely to suffer from clinical depression than older fathers. Not surprisingly, those same guys are less likely to read or spend time with their kids, and more likely to use corporal punishment. Of course, research is not destiny and if you’re a 25-year-old dad yourself, everything might be hunky dory. But if it’s not, do something about it — no matter what age you are.
