‘Anakin’ Cracks The Social Security Administration’s List Of Top 1,000 Names
The United State Social Security Administration recently released its annual list of the top 1000 baby names in the country and — for the first time — it appears there’s now at least a small chance that your child could grow up to marry a guy named after the third greatest movie villain of all time: Sith Lord Darth Vader. Darth’s first name, Anakin, is currently 957th on the list.
In a world where Game Of Thrones‘ Khaleesi is the 775th most popular girl’s name, maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise that parents are naming their kids after the character who not only killed the beloved Obi-Wan Kenobi but utterly ruined the Star Wars prequels by starring in them. Still, to put everything in perspective, Anakin’s ranking equates to 218 kids and, given the other names near him on the list, is it really that bad (looking at you Emmet, Baylor, Judson and … Truman)?
For the record, there’s still hope the Force is strong: “Luke” ranks 28th on the SSA list.
