Game of Thrones Scotch Is Here to Warm You This Coming Winter

Nine unique whiskies have been released in conjunction with the show.

Game of Thrones fans will have a tasty way to warm themselves this winter: a selection of limited edition scotches from Diageo made especially for fans. In preparation for the eighth and final season of the series, global whisky juggernaut Diageo has partnered with HBO to create nine unique whiskies, all priced at less than $70.

Booze and Game of Thrones make for somewhat of a beautiful marriage. These whiskies come after a tasty set of Game of Thrones beers, which coincided with a previous season, so there’s precedent for these things being great. But for us, there’s something about hours and hours of watching characters you love brutally murdered that just makes an alcoholic beverage seem like the perfect companion.

The Game of Thrones inspired whiskies include single malts and blends. Seven of the scotch whiskies are named for Houses of Westeros, as well as one for the Night’s Watch, and a Johnnie Walker blend called White Walker.

Each of the whiskies was thoughtfully paired with a House of Westeros: The Baratheons ended up with Royal Lochnagar, which was granted a Royal Warrant after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the distillery in 1848.

Talisker, remotely located in the harsh maritime climate of the Isle of Skye, was an obvious pick to represent seafaring House Greyjoy. And Lagavulin, the marquee distillery of the bunch–the gold standard if you will–represents the Lannister house.

These house whiskies range in price from $30 to $65, with the Lannister bottle being the most expensive, and the House Tully bottle of Singleton being the most affordable. They will all be available in mid-November, depending of course on your location.

Here’s a complete list of the bottles, so you can pick your favorite house (as if you don’t already have one):

Game of Thrones House Targaryen – Cardhu Gold Reserve (SRP $39.99)

Game of Thrones House Tully – The Singleton Glendullan Select (SRP $29.99)

Game of Thrones House Stark – Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost (SRP $39.99)

Game of Thrones House Lannister – Lagavulin 9 Year Old (SRP $64.99)

Game of Thrones House Greyjoy – Talisker Select Reserve (SRP $44.99)

Game of Thrones House Baratheon – Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old (SRP $64.99)

Game of Thrones House Tyrell – Clynelish Reserve (SRP $59.99)

Game of Thrones The Night’s Watch – Oban Little Bay Reserve (SRP $62.99)

As for the Johnnie Walker bottle, it’s a $36 special blend was created for this project, focusing on Cardhu and Clynelish, the latter of which is one of the northernmost distilleries in all of Scotland. Harsh winters abound there. The bottle uses temperature-sensitive thermochromic ink that reveals a special message when chilled.

It’s available now because, well, winter is closer than you think.
