Time to assemble your Iron Man-obsessed kids. Square Enix, the video game company behind such hits as Kingdom Hearts, Skylanders, and Final Fantasy is teaming up with Marvel to bring Tony Stark, Thor, and the rest of the Avengers to a video game console near you.
Okay. So the trailer doesn’t show earth’s mightiest heroes actually “assembling”. But it did follow a “multi-game” Marvel anouncement from Square Enix. So it’s safe to say that some sort of Avengers-centric video game will be the first title to hit consoles. It’s also safe to say that there will be some reassembling needed to be done. Is that a hint to where our heroes will be heading into the next Avengers film, Infinity War? If you’ve read comic books, then you know most of the answer.
Square Enix is looking towards their Western developers Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal to work on the Avengers video game. Those developers previously worked on highly acclaimed, but not very kid friendly games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex. But that doesn’t mean titles geared for your children are out of the question. Square Enix has made eight Kingdom Heart titles. And that video game co-stars Disney characters kicking ass through magical wizardry.
The Marvel-Square Enix deal states they, too, will be making video games for “years to come.” Unfortunately, you and your mini-Avengers are going to have to wait until 2018 to actually assemble in front of the controller. Hulk smash!
