When is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day starts at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT) on Monday, July 16 and goes until 11:59 p.m. ET (9 p.m. Pacific) Tuesday night, July 17. For those of you in the UK, it will begin at noon on July 16. If you’re in Australia, it will begin noon AEST. The sales will also run for 36 hours in both countries.

Do I have to be an Amazon Prime Member to participate in Prime Day?

Yes. To take advantage of most deals you must be an Amazon Prime subscriber. However, there will be discounts that will be available to most shoppers.

Will all the Amazon Prime Day deals appear at the same time?

There’s the rub. No. Many deals will only be available during a certain window of time. So you have to stay vigilant. It’s also good to keep in mind that the most popular items will sell out quickly, which means you must pounce early.

How do I score an Amazon Prime Day deal?

There are a few things you can do to make sure you’re primed to score on Prime Day. Here are six tips:

  1. Set up a Wish List
Identifying your shopping list prior to Prime Day with a Wish List not only helps you know what to search for but also helps keep you abreast of when those items are on sale. (Simply click “Add to List” when you’re browsing Amazon to do this). On Prime Day, check out “Your List” and you’ll be able to tell which items are already on sale.
  2. Be Ready For Big Items
Have something substantial on your list, such as a TV or Nintendo Switch? According to Sara Skirboll Shopping and Trends Editor for RetailMeNot, any bargains on such items are in limited quantity. “As a Prime member, you’ll get advance notice, but if it’s one of those 4K big-screen TVs you’re after or a Nintendo Switch, be ready to pounce before they’re all gone,” she says.
  3. Ask Alexa About Deals
If you have an Alexa-enabled device, she’ll help you suss out secret sales, per Skirboll. “Last year, Amazon offered several Alexa-only Prime Day deals, and this year, Amazon is already flaunting pre–Prime Day prizes, including a Lexus ES, $50,000 in cash and trip for two to Seattle.”
  4. Download the Amazon App
Amazon App allows you to get a glimpse of deals up to a week in advance, says Skirboll. Plus, when you add those items to your list you’ll receive an alert when they go on sale.
  5. Watch Out for Lightning Deals
Amazon’s Lightning Deals are called such because they’re gone in a flash. But Skirboll says to keep an eye out for these as much as possible because they’re normally some of the best. “Last year, to qualify as a lightning deal, a product had to be at least 20 percent off its list price,” she says. Just keep in mind: Once you put a lightning deal in your cart, per Skirboll, you only have about 15 minutes to transact.
  6. Make Sure the Deal Is Actually a Deal
As the internet is teeming with daily deals, how do you know if an Amazon Prime Deal is an actual deal-deal? One handy tool is CamelCamelCamel. Simply past the URL for your product into the site and it will not only tell you if it has been on sale before for a lower price but also allow you to track when certain Amazon products are on sale again.
