While its mission is connecting freelancers to people who need their services, San Francisco-based Upwork is also doing its part to improve full-time work. The parents among its 570 employees enjoy a slew of benefits that allows them to lead complete, fulfilling lives outside of work.
New parents receive 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, regardless of whether they’re the birthing parent or not. Upon returning to work, parents can take advantage of a concierge service to find childcare and utilize a generous subsidy that helps defray the cost of that childcare. One employee called Upwork an “ideal place to work as a father of young children,” and not just because of this impressive roster of perks.
“Our remote-first culture has enabled me to spend more time with my family throughout the day,” one father who works at Upwork says. “I never miss a breakfast or a dinner with the kids because of an ugly commute to the office…I know of no other parent in my social circle that has this same level of flexibility and support as I get here at Upwork.”
