Meet The Cast And Crew In The New Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ Movie

Scruffy looking nerf herder alert! The directors behind the upcoming Untitled Han Solo Anthology movie (aka, the Star Wars spinoff with young Solo) just dropped a photo of the cast inside the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon. You already have all the wisdom of a galaxy far, far away, and have indoctrinated them in the ways of the Force, but here’s a smuggler’s worth of intel on where you’ve seen the actors, directors, and father-son team who wrote the film. Because before you know it, it will be May 25, 2018, and you’ll have no idea why Harrison Ford isn’t in this movie.

Actors

Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo)
It’s an impossible task to fill the shoes of Harrison Ford, but if you’ve worked with Coppola, Woody Allen and the Coen Brothers, then that’s a good way to keep nerds hopeful. Ehrenreich is a talented American actor, who looks nothing like Ford — but hey, Ewan McGregor still doesn’t look like Alec Guinness, so it’s all good.

Woody Harrelson (Garris Shrike)
It’s been light years since Cheers hasn’t it? In the Han Solo flick, Harrelson is reportedly playing Garris Shrike, the father-figure to Solo. As you can imagine, Shrike isn’t the role model type. Disney has kept quiet on if Woody is really playing the Star Wars who was born in the novels. There’s so much mystery surrounding his role, you’re better off figuring out the riddles in Harrelson’s True Detective before Disney releases the truth.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Waller-Bridge was announced as part of the film in the Falcon cast image, so no one knows who she’ll play. Her resume includes The Iron Lady and Broadchurch. You’re probably asking yourself, ‘But has she been in anything that I’ve seen?’ Probably not. She did star in the rom-com, Man Up with Simon Pegg, however. We’re guessing that was required viewing for you circa Valentine’s Day 2016.

Emilia Clarke
Another actor linked to an unnamed character, Clarke has been one of many, many reasons, why you continue to lose sleep every spring when Game of Thrones returns to HBO as Daenerys Targaryen. Also, Clarke did a fine job playing Sarah Conner in the not so fine reboot/sequel/misspelled Terminator Genisys. If you’re a betting dad on Star Wars secrets (there has to be some sports book in Vegas you can do this), the smart money says Clarke will play Han’s love interest.

Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian)
The coolest dad in Hollywood will play the coolest guy in the Star Wars universe. Glover has been in comedies (Community, Atlanta) and shown enough swag as a rapper to step in for Billy Dee Williams. Let’s just hope that the sky-blue cape stays in the closet.

Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca)
Your favorite Wookie is no longer played by a giant, cuddly Brit, but instead a giant Finnish power forward.

Directors

Chris Miller & Phil Lord
This should give you an idea of film’s tone. Lord & Miller together have worked on The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and TV’s The Last Man On Earth. Those are all comedies with a heaping serving of action. It definitely means Disney plans to keep the film fun for the entire family and not be anything like Rogue One.

Writers

Lawrence & Jon Kasdan
Nerds will recognize the name, but Lawrence is doing what many of you have done with The Force Awakens — share the Star Wars universe with your kid. Does a father-son writing team mean father-son issues throughout the film? Will dad pass the torch to his son so he can craft more Star Wars films for a new generation? Like Yoda said, “Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.”
